My first tutorial.

This is my creation in my first tutorial.

Using information and the example in the tutorial, I adapted the building to include shapes other than cubes and cylinders for example the cone for the duck's tail and beak, spheres for the duck's eyes and body as well as the smoke coming from the house's chimney.

I have learnt how to create shapes and I have started to adjust to the 4 different viewing panes. Because I have been so used to creating 2D animations,to begin with it was difficult to keep remembering to look at them all however as time progressed, I started to find it easier.

To begin with, I created the basic house structure from cubes. To create the columns, I created a cylinder and cloned it. In order to create the roof I created another cylinder but changed the number of sides on the cynlinder to 3. This gave the ends a triangular shape. I then rotated the roof to make it horizontal. The grass and stepping stones were created using planes set as square. The pond was created using a combination of a torus (for the outside ring) and a cone which was flattened. The duck was created using a combination of spheres and cones. For the eyes, I used the clone tool and aligned them to ensure that they were of equal size and a suitable distance apart. As for the windows in the house, they were also cloned from each other to ensure that they were all the same size and were aligned so that they were equal difference apart from each other. Finally, the smoke coming out of the chimney was created using spheresof difference size and they wer positioned overlapping each other to create the desired effect.

My reaction to the 3D modelling and animation brief

I received the brief for my 3D Modelling and Animation assignment and it looks like a fun yet challenging task. I have only used 3D Studio Max once prior to this module and I am looking forward to using the software again in more detail. I have experience with the design phase of a similar assignment during Introduction to Animation last year however the production will be completely new and different to anything I have done before.
